With about 1000 messages per year on the cf-metadata mailing list, it's difficult to keep up! Major subjects discussed (and some even resolved) recently include:

• Need for way to specify shape of the earth (datum), for accurate spatial reference frame, projected coordinates, curvilinear coordinates, geolocation of observations, and integration with GIS data
• Well-known text (WKT) representations for coordinate reference systems
• Need for new standard names for different kinds of salinity
• Development of a CF Data Model and reference implementation in Python
• development and announcement of David Hassel's cf-python package and associated cf2cf aggregation tool, based on the CF Data Model
• Applicability of CF conventions for satellite data
• Representation for vector components, e.g. (u-wind, v-wind)
