A general list of maxims for data providers.
- Don't just provide visualizations, provide access to data
- And not just data, but also metadata
- And not just interactive access, but program access
- And not just local access or DVDs, but remote access
- And not just remote file access, but access via queries to subsets
and aggregations
- And not just for one platform or application, but compliant to standards
- And not just in the order it was written, but in the order users
want to read it
Scientists want to do science, not data management. Doing all of
the above is hard.
General advice: don't roll your own infrastructure
