Hello NSF Unidata Suominet data users,
As you have no doubt become aware, no data have been added to the GPSSRC
Internet Data Distribution (IDD) feed in quite some time. These data (i.e.
Suominet data) have historically been collected, processed, and made
available to NSF Unidata by the COSMIC program (https://cosmic.ucar.edu),
which like NSF Unidata is one of the UCAR Community Programs.
Funding that allowed COSMIC to collect and process Suominet data ended in
2024. As a result, COSMIC stopped adding to the Suominet archive and IDD
feed in August of that year. As of October 2025, archive data are still
available from COSMIC at https://data.cosmic.ucar.edu/suominet/.
Information from COSMIC can be found at
https://www.cosmic.ucar.edu/what-we-do/suominet-weather-precipitation-data.
During the lifetime of the Suominet project, NSF Unidata’s role has been to
distribute project data via the IDD and via our remote access data servers.
We have also provided support to help community members access and use the
data, and we have maintained this mailing list as a community forum.
With the end of COSMIC’s participation in the Suominet project, NSF Unidata
no longer has access to the data stream. We are therefore concluding our
efforts to distribute and support Suominet data. We will leave this mailing
list (and its historical archive) running for the time being, in case
community members wish to use it to support each others’ use of the archive
data.
