Hi,
I made an effort to incorporate as much as possible of the comments I received on the
earlier draft document that would have done away with the WCS list of "required
supported formats." The new approach is not so simple. This one does the
following:
-- "grandfathers" in the 5 original "required supported formats"
-- leaves in the option of supporting any additional format as long as one of the the
"required supported formats" is required.
-- provides a mechanism for establishing an additional "required supported
format" by getting a profile for the additional encoding format approved by the OGC
TC
-- creates a WCS Annex E where approved WCS format profiles would be documented.
This is proposed in two OGC change request documents: 06-073 which contains the new
wording for the WCS section on "required supported formats" and 06-074 which
contains the proposed WCS Annex E with the CF-netCDF profile included.
As you can tell, this is not as simple as the earlier draft. But then again,
not much about WCS is simple.
For those of you who are OGC members, you can see 06-073 and 06-074 among the
pending documents. I have not had adequate time for proofreading these
documents but I think I can still get corrections in tomorrow before the
dreaded 3-week rule kicks in for the next TC meeting, so please let me know if
you find any egregious errors. Of course, the 3-week rule is there to allow
for comments, so we can make changes in that time frame as well.
Thanks for your patience.
