Randy,
Look at the discussion in the CF standard about time bounds. If all the
whole grid is considered to have a single start/end time pair, then the
approach is to give the variable an additional time dimension of size
one, create a time coordinate variable that contains the (mid-point)
time to associate with the variable, and associate a bounds variable
with the coordinate variable that specifies the start and end time. You
might also consider whether or not it makes sense to associate a
cell_methods attribute with the data variable that specifies any
averaging over time and/or space for the elements of the grid.
Grace and peace,
Jim

Folks:
I have gridded data sets that are generated as a result of an instrument doing
sensing. It is convenient to store a gridded data set in a single variable.
These gridded data sets are associated with a start time and an end time.
Is there an existing CF metadata compliant approach that will allow relating a
start time and an end time to a data variable ?
